We aim to build a community of engaged leaders who will make an impact in the world through teamwork and personal development.
Detroit Debate scholars are given tools and resources to make sure they find their powerful voice to amplify their beliefs and speak their truths. Scholars utilize technology to research and cite their findings to successfully back up their beliefs, which will be needed in college.
We ensure that proper conflict resolution skills are being taught as opposed to aggressive arguing.

strengthen your leadership skills
Scholars are taught to articulate their arguments in a clear and concise manner. Debates help students learn through friendly competition, examine controversial topics, and strengthen leadership skills.
communicate more effectively
You quickly discern what arguments are really about and skillfully sway your audience to agree with you. Debate builds skills in critical thinking, communication, collaboration and creativity.
overcome Glossophobia
Scholars overcome Glossophobia, i.e the nervousness of public speaking. They also improve their reading and writing, and build confidence in themselves and their abilities. Organizational skills are taught from the structuring of arguments in their speech to make them more understandable and convincing.
Detroit Debate scholars learn life lessons that they can use into their adulthood such as analytical, organizational, and persuasive skill sets.
We foster an understanding where voices are heard, valued, and amplified. Each scholar becomes more adept at navigating complex issues and engaging with diverse perspectives.
About The Program
Our workshop thrives on being an open safe space for youth to learn the concept of debate with their peers.
We want youths from diverse backgrounds to join the Detroit Debate and discuss relevant subjects/issues.
