Board of Directors Bios

Donna Taudte - Chairwoman

Donna Gowers Taudte is a retired English teacher and administrator from Miami-Dade County. She and her husband moved to Citrus County in 2005. They live on the Withlacoochee River and enjoy the slow, leisure pace of Inglis.

Donna has two daughters, one step-son, a handsome grandson and two gorgeous granddaughters. She enjoys reading, gardening, volunteering at the Habitat ReStore, and long walks with Shadow, a Lab mix.

Dee Dixon - Vice Chairwoman

I have been married for 60 years to my husband, Ralph. We had four children, but sadly we lost our daughter Denise. We are blessed with six grandkids, eleven great-grandkids, and one great, great-grandchild!

I have always been active in community affairs – volunteering to help the needy has been very important to me. God has a purpose for each of us. Most of my working years were spent in retail management. I had the opportunity to travel to many states to open new stores. I’ve been an active member of Women’s Clubs for over 50 years. I’ve served on all elected Board positions and I am a member of the American Business Women’s Association.

I’ve had a blessed life and enjoy giving back. Thank you for the opportunity to serve on the Child’s Play Foundation, Inc. Board of Directors.

June Proffit - Secretary

I am a graduate of the Massachusetts Department of Mental Health School of nursing and both Massachusetts and Florida licenses. This school taught special education in retardation, psychiatric and geriatric nursing care as well as maternity and medical care. I’ve held positions of Medical Nurse, Treatment Nurse, Charge Nurse, Supervisor and Nursing Home Administrator. Since moving to this area in 1978, I have cared for many Inglis and Yankeetown residents.

Margaret (Marty) Wright - Treasurer

Originally from Washington, DC, Marty and her mother, Geraldine Aylor, retired and moved south from Waldorf, MD to Citrus Hills in Hernando, FL in May 2006. She has a son, Brian, from a previous marriage who lives in Tampa. Marty was recently married to Gary Wright after meeting him in Citrus County. Gary’s five children in California have also been added to the family. Marty has lived in Washington DC, New Orleans LA, Birmingham AL, the state of Maryland and now Hernando, FL.

Marty retired from the Federal government after 34 years of service at the Census Bureau. She held several positions including Secretary, and Administrative Analyst in the budget division. There she helped prepare the Census Bureau’s budget that was then included in the final President’s Budget. That position allowed her to speak with many people in other agencies. Before working at Census, she worked for two different telephone companies as a drafting clerk. In all of her jobs, Marty has enjoyed her relationships with many coworkers, many of which still continue.

Wherever she was, church was always a part of her life. She now attends Seven Rivers Presbyterian Church in Citrus County where she met Penny Phares in a small group of ladies. After hearing about Penny’s work with children it seemed a perfect fit when Penny asked her to become a part of her Board of Directors the end of 2008.
